It has come to my attention lately that many of our visitors are wanting to know how to create mods.

unfortunatly, it's not possible for everyone to create mods. There are several reasons why.

Firstly, To create mods, you need virtools. Virtools is a very expensive tool, and although it's possible to get a Student licence, it's nearly impossible.

Secondly, in order to create sucsessful mods, you need soruce files from SimTractor. Although ST.Net mods are unofficial, The ST.Net mod team have obtained these source files from ST DIFFUSIONS, and without them it's not possible to create mods. Reverse-engeneering SimTractor to gain these source files is Strictly ilegal, and ST DIFFUSIONS may take legal action against those involved.

The ST.Net mod project started out as simply a test, of a few machines. I never realised it would gain this much publicity, and be the centre of so much attention. So, i apologise for bringing false hope to the users of st, but i must remind you that i never ment these mods to be such a big thing. they were just a hobbie, and a test. So, let's try and keep it that way.

I'd like to thank all the people who have taken intrest in the mods, and downloaded them. You caused us many headaches in january and febuary when you used many many gigabytes of ST.Net bandwidth Very Happy

Now, for the future. Currently i'm having problems creating mods for STv3.5 due to compatablilty issues with the latest version of virtools. These problems will be resolved in STv4, and (somehow) i promise to bring some new mods after the release of v4.

Thanks again,
St.net team.

Ok, how easy is for you to programe the mods? say a user gave you the render and the skin file. Would it be possible for you to create the mod?

Thanks,

Even if i beleved you had a legal version of virtools, you cant do it. thats the whole point of this topic!! the ST developers will not give out the files needed to create new machines. that's what i explained many times.

ok well, if you can come up with something to prove your skill with virtools, and you can prove to us about your virtools licence, then maybe we can sort something out. But just because your teacher has a programming grade dosent make much difference, because virtools is specialised software, and it's quite different to standard C or java programing. unless he's got experience in virtools then there's a very slim chance he will be able to help.

I would be 50% willing to help people create mods, but only when i am 100% satisfied that they have the correct software and the correct knowlage, and they will have no problems at all. maybe if i encountered someone with the above, then we could talk with ben. but at the moment, no one new springs to mind. and definately nothing would happen untill after st v4.
