I see alot of you guys from across the pond talkin about how the "American sized" equipment is too large for your applications. I was wondering, what is the avg acreage/hectares/etc. of the farms in you area? With a few exceptions, the avg farm where I live ranges from 100-300 acres, 99% of the farms here are family run operations, although we do have 2 different groups that while not "factory" farms, do have LARGE families and farm in excess of 1,000 acres. Also, for ease of us all, if anyone knows how many acres to a hectare, or vice versa(not sure which one is bigger) that would be helpful in us all figurin out what the other folks are workin with.

hmmmm well farmers are buying out other farmers over the past 10 years so i would say that the av size would be about 3000-5000 acres. Ours is 5000 acres

oh and its around 2.5 acres per hectare Wink

The average size farm around here, including rented is about 250 acres.

Our farm here including rented is about 200 acres. Although the whole business has about 500 / 600 acres

i spose compared to you guys over in the US and aus, thas quite small tho Laughing

Umm about 250 acres, we are about 260 acres, no rented ground. We see it as ppointless round here cause of the limitations that the landlord of that rented ground would put up, I.E. no wheat or maize. So we own all of our land.

WOW, ya'll are running some big farms!!! For those of you farming 1,000 plus acres, do you have a whole lot of fields, or just a few that are several hundred acres? I know some of the fields in the midwestern US can be 200-300 acres per field

WOW, an 800 acre field, but that takes a couple of days to till/plant/harvest, or do you all "gang farm" it? what I mean to say is, multiple tractors/tillers/planters/combines?

well it took us under a week to fertilise with NH3 with a 12m Rigg on one tractor. It took several days to harvest it with 2 Case 8010's with a 36ft and 42ft front. But no we dont normally gang farm it. One tractor does it all
