Why do farm layouts in Europe still have cobblestone farmyards even in modern times?

Doesn't that stuff wear out and get really bumpy after awhile? I mean, is it hard to maintain?

Not trying to diss on Europe or anything, as a serious question, I noticed a lot of European layouts have stone farm yards.

Also, why the buildings always seem to be "bunched" together? Is it to save space?

Its not the same but simailr type of layout like. Nice map.

cobblestone doesnt wear out on building generally over time sometimes it does wear a little bit though.
